I went to this Flutter/Elixir meetup in Göteborg 🇸🇪

As some of you know, things have been changing quite a lot for me professionally in the last couple of months. I feel very lucky to have been able to meetup with new people and spend even more time working on projects I, personally, enjoy and want to support and want to help move forward.
It was a long week...
In preparation for the launch of my new project Brefi (👈 you're welcome to signup for the launch announcement 💚), I posted a poll asking folks where do they intend to publish their apps this year. So far, the results are quite surprising (I will post more about that soon).
Now that I've been following Swedish class for almost 4 months (hej hej 👋), I decided to do something fun and join a Meetup in Sweden 🇸🇪.
As luck would have it, Lars from https://underjord.io/ was scheduled to give a talk about using Elixir and Flutter in a meetup in Göteborg. I've been trying to see one of his talks live since ElixirConf EU last autumn, and this was the first time my schedule allowed it. (Also, I'm deeply grateful to the Meetup hosts for ensuring a remote option for the event).
The title of the talk was “Flutter on my Nerves” and you probably guessed it, it was about Elixir Nerves joining forces with a Flutter app to make something awesome. It was brilliant.
I absolutely enjoyed the angle of putting together a finished product while taking full advantage of the BEAM and Flutter's cross-platform support. I've had my share of gigs where I had the opportunity to create an app integrating with an IoT, so the use case of the talk felt really close to home.
It’s exciting that today in 2025 we have a lot more options and accessible tooling to build stuff on small devices. Flutter and Elixir share a certain pragmatism to their approach. Both focus on developer productivity, offering a lot more “happy path” options out of the box. During the meetup, the concept of “humane developer tools” came up, and it really stuck with me.
Developer tools must support creators, not the other way around.
As part of my fullstackness, I've been working with Flutter for about 5 years, and now almost 3 years with Elixir. They both made me feel empowered to quickly and reliably implement whatever I had on my mind. I was able to translate my ideas into something that works. Even more, both Flutter and Elixir work “everywhere”. Putting my creations in the hands of people without platform constraints is absolutely trilling.
Cheers, K.
