A post about posting

Good question. There are days when I catch myself wanting to post these absurdly long threads on Fedi. You know, when it’s hard to fit the essence of a point in 500 characters*. And yet, I never do because who wants to have to scroll through a full-screen view of a toot about something random?
Side note: This wasn’t really a problem on a Pleroma/Akkoma instance, where the character limit is much larger than Mastodon‘s, and it’s also configurable without having to modify the server’s source code 🙃.
One idea was to blog about technical stuff, “How to” posts and similar. As a developer, I go through a great deal of technical information and personal experiences daily, and there may be some value in documenting them. After all, in a “post Search” internet, every piece of knowledge is even more valuable since it may not be easy to find it again in the future.
In fact, I started doing this kind of writing a while ago, though not publicly. Once I discovered Obsidian and its method of cataloging knowledge, facts, and all kinds of information really, it became an essential tool to structure and catalog my days. I even wrote an extensive tutorial on how to customise it so it feels juuust right. I still publish the occasional tech article, and frankly I wish I did it more. Maybe it should be I should add that to my goals.
Another idea was to offer to more regular and structured insights into “the day of an indie app developer”. A lot of fantastic people already publish content to help demystify the latest piece of technology. While I love explaining things and sharing my learnings, I prefer to do so in a more personal context, with concrete objectives in mind.
CodeBEAM Europe is coming up and I’m very excited to meet Elixir people for the first time! Surely this will inspire some blogging ideas.
So here we are. This was a post about posting lol 😂.
